Digital Frome

Professional digital help, in plain English

Digital help you can trust

Professional support with computers, phones and tablets — in your own home, at your own pace. Over twenty years' experience, brought to your kitchen table. No jargon, no rushing, and no question treated as a silly one.

The first conversation is always free. Ring and describe the problem — if it isn't something I can help with, I'll tell you straight away and point you to someone who can.

Things I help with every week

If it plugs in, logs in or won't do what it's told, it's probably on this list. And if it isn't, ring me anyway.

  • Email that's stopped working

Locked out, full inbox, messages vanishing, or a new address set up from scratch.

  • A new phone, tablet or laptop

Set up properly, your things moved across from the old one, and shown how to use it.

  • Wi-fi that keeps dropping out

Broadband, routers, black spots upstairs, and getting the telly connected.

  • Photos

Getting them off your phone, printing them, sharing them with family, backing them up so they can't be lost.

  • Video calls with the family

WhatsApp, FaceTime, Zoom — set up once and written down so you can do it on your own.

  • Scams and staying safe

What the dodgy messages look like, what to do if you've clicked one, and how to make your accounts harder to break into.

  • Passwords you can actually remember

An end to the scrap of paper by the kettle, without making life harder.

  • Telly and streaming

iPlayer, Netflix, Amazon Fire Sticks, and why the remote stopped working.

  • A slow or cluttered computer

Cleaned up and made usable again — or wiped safely if you're passing it on.

  • Doing things online

Shopping, banking, GP appointments, council forms, train tickets — at your pace, until you're happy.

  • Printers

The most infuriating object in any house. I'll have a go.

  • Whatever's been bothering you

Bring the list. Most people have one. There's no such thing as a silly question here.

How it works

  1. Ring or email me

Tell me what's going wrong in your own words. This chat is free and there's no obligation at all.

  2. I come to you

Almost always at your home, where the trouble actually is. We agree a day and a time that suits you.

  3. We sort it out together

I'll show you what I'm doing rather than hunching over it in silence. You can watch every step.

  4. I write it down for you

Before I leave, you get simple written notes for anything you'll need to do again. No relying on memory.

What it costs

£25 an hour

And the first chat is always free.

  • No call-out fee and no charge for travel, anywhere in the area below.
  • One hour minimum, then charged by the half hour. Most jobs take an hour or two.
  • Cash or bank transfer on the day. Nothing to pay up front, ever.
  • If it turns out to be a five minute job, I'll tell you and I won't charge you for an hour.

My promise on safety

You have been told, quite rightly, to be careful about who you let near your computer. So here is exactly what I will never do:

  • I will never ask for your bank details or your card number.
  • I will never ring you out of the blue saying there's a problem with your computer. If someone does that, it's a scam — put the phone down.
  • I will never ask to take control of your computer from somewhere else. I work with you, in your home, where you can see the screen.
  • I will never ask you to pay before I've done the work.
  • Your passwords stay yours. Where I need one to fix something, you type it in, not me — and I'll tell you if anything ought to be changed afterwards.

Where I come to

I cover Frome and the towns and villages around it. Travel is included — you won't pay extra for being at the far end of the area.

  • Frome
  • Trowbridge
  • Westbury
  • Warminster
  • Bradford on Avon
  • Radstock
  • Wells
  • and the villages in between

Not sure if you're in the area? Ring and ask — if you're just outside it I'll usually still come.

Why you can trust me

Tim, who runs Digital Frome

My name is Tim. I have worked in digital and technology for more than twenty years, and I currently lead marketing and communications for a regional business support organisation.

A large part of my work is teaching. I train business owners and their staff to use technology properly and to protect themselves online, and I advise organisations on keeping their information safe. Digital Frome brings that same professional experience to people at home, at a price that suits a household rather than a company.

Every visit is unhurried. I explain things in ordinary language, at whatever pace suits you, and I am perfectly happy to go over something two or three times until you're confident with it. Nobody is made to feel foolish for asking.

I am DBS checked, fully insured, and registered with the Information Commissioner's Office — the government body that oversees how personal information is looked after.

What I don't do

I'd rather be straight with you than waste your time:

  • Hardware repairs. I don't open machines up to replace broken screens or parts. I'll tell you who does.
  • Data recovery from a dead drive. If a hard disk has physically failed, that's a specialist job — I'll point you to one.
  • An unlimited free helpline. A quick question afterwards is always fine and always free. If it turns into another job, we'll book another visit.

Running a small business?

I also work with businesses and startups on digital marketing strategy, copywriting, LinkedIn profiles, getting practical value out of AI, and the basics of cyber security — including Cyber Essentials. Different work, same plain English. Drop me a line and we'll have a chat.

Let's have a chat

Ring me and tell me what's going wrong. It costs nothing to ask, and you're not committing to anything.

I take a limited number of appointments and they do get booked up, so please ring early if there is a particular day you need.
